Japanese Yew Coasters (Tyler Arboretum), $4-$6
Handcrafted in Swarthmore, PA from a fallen Japanese Yew that was planted in the 19040s & 1950s at Tyler Arboretum. Each coaster is unique with its beautiful grain pattern and deep orange color. Carefully sanded and finished with Betty’s Board Butter (beeswax & food safe mineral oil).
Regular: Approximately 3-4” in diameter x .5” thick. $6
Small: Approximately 3-3.5” in diameter x .5” thick. $4
Movement in the wood is normal and considered part of its charm. Some of these coasters have their original cracks in them. Clean with a damp cloth. Dry immediately. Re-oil occasionally. Yew has some toxic properties so these coasters are NOT considered food safe, so just don’t eat directly off these coasters.
