A nod to the Marx Brothers. Introducing Sirens #197-201: Chico, Groucho, Gummo, Harpo & Zeppo. Did you know that Arthur “Harpo” Marx was silent in all his movie appearances? He used to use a wide variety of car horns (also called squeeze or bulb horns) in order to communicate and make people laugh. Seriously funny stuff.
This particular antique/vintage car horn is approximately 8” tall with a 5.25” bell was married to a reclaimed pine beam from a house on the 300 block of Park Ave. in Swarthmore, PA, but somehow ended up with a walnut base that was not meant for this horn.
This type of horn would have been mounted on the side of a car or motorcycle and used to have a reed and rubber ball attached to it. The base is finished with Betty’s Board Butter (beeswax and mineral oil). You may wish to re-oil your base occasionally. If your phone has stereo options you may want to play around with mono and stereo settings to see which you prefer.
