Leak
Leak
Leaky Larch. This bowl was turned from a piece of Larch that our friend Robert Smythe gave to us. We had never worked with larch before, so of course had to put it on the lathe to see what would happen. We discovered what others apparently already know… it has quite a lot of resin. We let it sit for a few months expecting the resin to leak out, but it didn’t. So we threw it in the oven for several days to dry out which seemed to work, but don’t be surprised if there’s a little more left. This bowl has a ton of character with all its natural cracks, crevices, raised grain, and holes. Still perfect for holding fruits and vegetables or decorative pinecones.
Approximately 10-10.5” in diameter x 3.5” deep with all its original cracks, knots and character. Finished with Betty’s board butter (beeswax & food safe mineral oil). Movement in the wood is considered normal. Clean with a damp cloth. Dry immediately. Re-oil occasionally.
